Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022

The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 introduced additional duties for building owners and managers to strengthen fire safety in multi-occupied residential buildings. Developed in response to recommendations from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, the regulations require responsible persons to provide key information to Fire and Rescue Services, helping them plan for and, where necessary, deliver an effective emergency response.

At NMC Building Safety, we help clients understand these requirements and implement practical, proportionate solutions that support compliance and enhance fire safety management. Our advice is tailored to each building, providing confidence that responsibilities are being met and that residents and building users are better protected.

Building Plans

Arrange the preparation, review, and ongoing management of compliant building floor plans and firefighter information plans, ensuring essential information is available to Fire and Rescue Services both before and during an emergency.

External Wall Systems

Gather and maintain the information required on a building’s external wall system, ensuring Fire and Rescue Services are provided with clear and up-to-date details on construction materials, fire risks, mitigation measures, and any significant changes to the building façade.

3

Lifts & Other Key Firefighting Equipment

Provide practical guidance and compliance tools to carry out monthly checks of firefighting lifts, evacuation lifts, and other key firefighting equipment, and provide clear reporting procedures to help ensure any defective equipment is escalated appropriately to the local Fire and Rescue Service where required.

4

Information Boxes

Provide support for the supply and installation of a secure information box, including the preparation of a compliant emergency response pack, along with guidance and tools to support ongoing maintenance and inspections.

5

Wayfinding Signage

Provide advice on compliant wayfinding signage and arrange for the supply and installation of appropriate signage to support safe navigation and emergency response within the building.

6

Fire Doors

Provide practical guidance and compliance tools to undertake annual checks of flat entrance doors and quarterly checks of all fire doors in the common parts.

7

Fire Safety Instructions & Fire door Information

Create and provide clear, tailored fire safety instructions for residents, including guidance on how to report a fire and the actions they must take once a fire has occurred, in line with the building’s evacuation strategy. This also includes providing information on the importance of fire doors.
